Enjoy the Moment
Jayson Stark at ESPN.com hypothesizes on who will be the next pitchers to reach 300 wins. Stark takes twenty-eight of the games best pitchers and liberally gives them each 15 wins per year until their respective 40th birthdays. Not one reaches 300. The closest? C.C. Sabathia (age 24, so a lot of things have to go right for him to win 15/year for the next 16 years, just ask Greg Maddux himself).
Tom Glavine may represent the most realistic chance. He stands at 259 wins, but at age the age of 38 and on a mediocre team, he will need to make the most of every start.
We should enjoy this while it lasts because there is a very good chance we will not see another 300-win pitcher for several decades.
